Assignment description

Development of the new website of De Belegger and its French counterpart L'Investisseur.  The website renewal consisted of 3 major parts:

• Implementation of the new graphical design (created by Mediafin in close cooperation with Little Miss Robot)
• Technical upgrade of the websites to the renewed webplatform of Mediafin
• Addition of share advice lists on the website (new functionality)

This week the latest versions of the iPhone app of De Tijd and L'Echo made it to the App Store.  Version 1.0.2 is only a minor update that adds support for sharing via Twitter, fixes some bugs and improves compatibility with iOS 4.  See the project sheet for more background information on this project.

Our client's problem...
Today the news is reaching us through many different channels. People read newspapers, but also follow news on their desktop, smartphone, iPad etc... This means that editors and news publishers are rethinking the best ways of bringing their content to the consumers. 

Mediafin wanted to take a big step towards a more multimedia editorial workflow.  Publications like De Tijd and L'Echo work with multiple media channels like print, online and sms; and news should be made regardless of the carrier through which a consumer will read it. Content first is the idea and a journalist should be able to manage all of the related content and publish to all the different media through a single user interface!

Timeframe: released in June 2010

The case for an iPhone app
The newspapers De Tijd and L'Echo have had their mobile sites for a long time already.  But with the industry-wide focus on the Apple iPhone and the fact that a large part of the Mediafin userbase was browsing mobile with iPhone (as analytics had shown), Mediafin wanted to more strongly support both brands by creating an iPhone app.
